Today we learned something new in math. It is called using a "partial sum algorithm" to solve two and three digit addition problems. I am not sending homework on this tonight, but I found this website with a nice simple explanation of the steps we use to solve this type of problem. The girls are aware that we use different strategies at different times and this is one that we will be using this year. When you have a few minutes, watch the video and I believe it will help you understand this method. Thanks for the support! Simply click the link below.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
I hope that your girls have told you about the book we are reading in class. It is a real page-turner called The Invention of Hugo Cabret and the girls are enjoying it so much! It is a "picture novel." The author's name is Brian Selznick. He uses pictures to tell the story as much as words. Julia's mom shared with me that his work will be on exhibit at the Dixon Gallery October 23-January 8. This would be a great chance to expose your girls to his art work. They will even host a "Family Day" on November 12th from 10:00-2:00. It looks like a lot of fun! Please click on the link below for more information. Thanks for sharing, Laurie!
